hello everyone,

I am interested in becoming a pahrmacist. im currently a senior in highschool and my grades are good, A's and B's. I'm going to go to the junior college and get my pre's out the way before going to siue. Ive heard that to get into pharm school you have to pass the pcat and some job experience would be good, which is what im asking about. I want to job shadow or intern at a pharmacy when i graduate, so this summer and maybe summers after, and i was wondering if i need to get a pharm tech license or what i need to do, i want to learn but also try and make money to while doing it all. should i call like he Walgreen and ask what i should do or what.

I'm in desperate need and don't know what to do because if i don't have any experience i'm afraid i wont have a good chance of getting into pharm school. I want some advice on what i should do. I also live in Illinois if that helps at all.

THANKS!

First, I would suggest using the search function, as this question has been asked & answered in a number of different ways. There is a robust thread here about pharmacy techs: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=280265

I would suggest getting licensed & certified if you can. Check with your state Board of Pharmacy to see what you have to do. "Certified" comes from the PTCB, after you take their exam. In many states, all you have to do is pass the PTCE then apply for your license.

Actual pharmacy experience comes in a couple flavors: work experience, volunteering, and shadowing. If you're shooting to get paid, obviously work experience is going to be the only of the 3 that do that. However, CoPs are often looking for a well-rounded person, so you may consider volunteering (if not in a pharmacy, for something you feel passionate about).
