I recently got back my English essay from my professor. I got an amazing score of 80. Great. Maybe it's because I'm not from here, and my English skills aren't up to par. Overall, I have 2 B's, and 2 A's. I think my cGPA is around a 3.46. It's really frustrating me at this point. I'm doing terrible. Anyone else dealt with what I was dealing with? Any way I can change this around? Let me get ready for the comments regarding law school, or DO school so I don't become too angry. Let's not forget about the Caribbean.

Are you going to post something like this every time you get a single bad grade on a paper or test?

No. It's just I feel I'm slowly continuing a trend that's going to leave me screwed in the end. That's all. Sorry.

A 3.46 cGPA is by no means horrendous. It could use a little work, of course, but if it goes absolutely nowhere at all by the end of your undergrad, you're not completely toast. Focus more on science grades, English is for... English.

If you're concerned about your grades in intro-level classes, I promise you that your school has a tutoring center that covers all of those classes - English included. They can do wonders for you.

Don't worry about a couple B's just yet. I don't know what school you're attending (CC or Ivy or mid-tier state), but you need to take a few deep breaths and not worry about a few "bad" grades that you've received from 1 english essay and 1 intro bio exam. Speak to a tutor/TA/professor to see what you can do to improve. College is a marathon, not a sprint. The best thing you could do is step away from SDN, read over your essay, and see where you can do better the next essay so you can crush it. Being on SDN only increases the neuroticism of bad grades and underperformance, as this website self selects for the weirdos, like me, who go on here almost everyday for unknown reasons. You'll be fine!

About the English, you really should do all you can to work on that. Many-a-stellar applicant has been wrecked by VR on the MCAT. In other words, it's going to continue to haunt you until you fix it.

As for the "low" GPA, you are a freshman in college. Give yourself time to adjust. That being said, work on adjusting now. Figure out what is inefficient about your study techniques and fix it as soon as possible.

And I get annoyed when people draw parallels between DO and Caribbean schools😉.

Have you tried working with a writing tutor? A lot of schools have a writing center where excellent tutors can help you hone your writing skills -- or at least will glance over it and tell you if you are totally off base. I was an undergrad tutor at Harvard (not in expository writing or English, but in subjects that involved writing extensively) and found that even some very high-functioning kids couldn't keep their ideas straight on paper. As is often with other aspects of our self image, many people (myself included) operate on an inflated conception of their own writing abilities.

Yes I attend a mid-tier suny.
