Hi,

I thought I already decided on internal medicine until I started my radiology rotation last week! I totally love looking at the images. Radiology will allow me to obtain broad-based knowledge (which is my main reason to go for IM). However, I am not sure if I will miss the patient contact and how satisfied will I feel if I am not involved in the treatment. Any suggestions on how to figure it out??!! Thanks!!

I have brief patient contact everyday. Just enough for me. If you need treatment you can always go into interventional radiology. Also, I hope you really understand what being a general internal medicine physician is all about. You have to ask yourself what is important in your life and how much you enjoy different aspects of each field.

what radiologists lose in patient contact they make up for with referring clinician contact. Many radiologists enjoy physician-physician interaction more than patient interaction.
