Hi,
I'm re-applying this year cuz my DAT were not that great last year and didn't get accepted to any school. Do i have to write a new personal statement? or update it? i didn't do anything new that i can include in my personal statement which can help me "in why i decided to pursue dentistry". PLUS, my thoughts are in my original statement.

what do u think?

thx

You definitely want to update your personal statement. You can recycle parts, but there should be new elements incorporated into it. Like how did you improve your application? How have you changed over the year?

They didn't accept you for a reason, so this is your chance to show them how you've become more prepared for dental school.

I totally got you. BUT, in the past year, i didn't do anything that i can add to my personal statement to improve it. they didn't accept me because of my DAT's, not because i had a bad gpa, or didn't shadow enough dentists.
and i planning to retake my DAT in the last week of july, but i'm planning to send my application soon (like next week).

any advice on what should i do ?

How about i say something like i graduated with my bio degree, and planning to get a job at a dental office as soon as i'm done with my dat?

What kind of accomplishments have you had since graduation? Have you talked to a dental school admissions counselor to see if the scores were the only thing holding you from going to dental school? If you are reapplying, you should write about how you are continuing doing extracurricular activities such as shadowing and volunteering and show that the year off since your last application has not made you stale to the point that even with a decent DAT scores, they schools will not want you. You have to show that you are still passionate about dental school and you are doing the best you can and not just waiting around to take the DAT's. You do not need to rewrite a new paper, but you should add what you have been doing since your last application cycle and how you have improved as a person and how the dental schools would be making a big mistake if they do not accept you into their program.
