I started 9th grade this fall. I'm driving myself absolutely insane with grades and I'm killing myself over every grade I get. My grades right now go like this:

Science - 95
PE - 91
Algebra I - 90
English I - 81
World Civ. - 89
Italian - 80

I have like a 3.2 gpa. That's awful. I'm going crazy over my grades and I'm thinking about giving up. i feel sick and i hate this. I cant do anything with a 3.2 gpa. i hate italian the class is so damn hard and i suck at it.

Who cares dude your doing pretty good overall. ... If your struggling with anything get a good tutor who will just clarify things you don't understand. You seem to have a handle on most your subjects.

Btw. I got a 70 in Bio 2 in 9th grade and I'm in Medical school now.

Not trying to be a dick dude but Hs grades don't really matter... unless your doing terrible. What matters really is whether you learn how to study. The real grades that matter are in college and beyond.

thank you for this post imcrying i hate myself for this. im not in a good place at this moment. How did you take bio 2 in 9th grade? my school doesnt even have bio two and doesnt let us take bio 1 until tenth

A 3.2 GPA (which will probably go up as you get used to high school) is plenty good to get into a 4-year college which will set you up for whatever you want to do in life. If it's medical school, great. If not, great. Try not to be too hard on yourself at this point—all As and Bs at the beginning of your freshman year is good work!

Thank you my worry is fading. I'm making myself crazy with grades its all I can think about and its taking away from my life. but it will eventually be worth it. I know it will. Also, what is a good GPA in college for getting into med schools?

Agree that you aren't in a bad place right now, don't worry.

I'd also like to give you advice. How are you studying?

So here is some advice I learned that helped me a lot. Stop focusing so much on grades and focus on truly learning the information. If your thought process while studying is “will studying this get me an A?” then you are focused on the wrong stuff. Your focus needs to be learning the material and truly understanding what’s going on. See if your hs has tutors available to help you. Do not let your grades eat you alive. Focus on the information not the grade as much. The grades will come when true understanding comes.

I graduated middle of my class in HS with a 3.4 roughly (honestly, I can't remember since it has been 6 years). I made a couple of C's in math courses, failed my first chemistry test in 10th grade and transferred to physical science because it was easier. I got a B in both my pre-AP and AP biology courses. Guess what? Now I have a 3.8 GPA in undergrad about to graduate with my bachelors degree having made almost all A's in my pre-req's. On top of that, I have been accepted to a medical school and will be attending next Fall. DO NOT worry too much about your high school performance. Just try to have some fun for now. Try to keep the grades up within reason of course, but do not kill yourself with anxiety.

If you can’t relax, get some counseling. Not joking

High school grades mean nothing as long as you can still get into college. Nothing

Your science grades and math are your best. Believe it or not those are the classes that matter somewhat to becoming a doctor. Dont stress. Im in medical school and dont know any italian

For what it’s worth, I *barely* made a C- in 9th grade biology. I got my first med school acceptance like 2 weeks ago. Use high school like a science experiment - try out tons of different ways to study, find the one that works best for you, and develop it to the highest degree. Then in college, study whatever your heart desires, and do the best you can.

Honestly, don't burn yourself over every grade in high school. What matters is the college GPA. No one will ask you about your h.s. GPA during med school interviews. Take deep breaths, my friend, and know that balance is the key to learning 😉

Finished with a 3.2 in highschool and got a 1050 on the SAT, just got accepted to medical school a couple of weeks ago.

Try your best in high school, but mostly have fun with your buddies. Nobody cares in college what your hs grades are.

Market value. Market value. Market value.

It's okay to hate Italian.

Think about your future goals for a moment and take it from there. Never lose sight of the big picture. Only then can you go on from there.

I was a good student, but social and lazy. I think I got a D in some social studies course in 9th grade. A D, in history. Seriously.
Then I learned how to study, how to manage time, how to break projects down to play sports, socialize, study, watch bad 80’s TV AND get A+s.
It took a year or so.
Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.
Work hard when you’re working, play hard when you’re playing. It’s all about the balance. Learn that and you’ll be good for the next 15 years. Then it’s all about the money/lifestyle/productivity/“fame” balance.
