Hi guys,

I am about to start my 2 year in medical school and I'll be taking boards toward the later half of my 3rd year, but I already have some questions about step 1 so i can prevent my medical schools typical below average board score.

So far I have only taken Physiology, Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, and Embryology. I kind of crammed these in(except for physiology i have read most of guyton and hall) and while I made A's I feel like i learned them only for the short term. Should I pick up my original text book and start to review these subjects, or are they not worth it since boards in mainly Path, and Pharm(or so I hear).

Also the older years in my school claim that our pharm class is rushed, it only goes for 10 weeks. What can I do to really learn this subject and for path?

I know i'm over a year away, but I tend to procrastinate and i'm trying to change that and hopefully i will start studying everyday(any tips on how to do that lol). Plus I don't want my Board score to inhibit me from picking a residency.

Currently I have planned to just try and find some old kapalan notes, and try to read the subjects I have already covered such as Cell Biology, Biochem, physiology and Anatomy. Although I'll probably only be able to donate one hour a day I'm hoping this will eventually get me some where.

So is this an acceptable plan, because sometimes I read things on here that competely blow my mind. Like some one asked a Vitamin A question, about what intracellular pathway is activates, and i was like WTF?!?! we never learned that from biochem, i only know thats its needed to make collagen and a deficiency causes scurvy and your gums bleed!!!!!!

Also any tips about micro or neuroanatomy is appreciated.

I would forget about trying to review first year material. You can't really get the point of what's important vs. not important in the first year material until you see how it relates to the disease. If you really want to do something now you could read BRS Phys.

Second year I would start studying for the boards along with class from the very beginning if you say your school's average is so low. There is lots of advice for how to do that all over this thread.

First, take a chill pill qd. The best advice I got from here was to really learn the MSII material. Trust me, it was worth it.

I learned my stuff so well (I busted my arse off during MSII, read some FA here and there ,did some webpath, read RR, did some of that crappy USMLEasy, hey, it was free 😉, etc), that if I go tomorrow to take the "beast" after being on a leave of absence of a year, I would supossedly pass (according to NBME).

Now, I see that you say that your school has below average scores for Step 1. I agree with Sprinkibrio about BRS Phys, but really, you have to learn the stuff first to know what to review, what's important.

I would add Robbins Path Review too. ANd If you are so hardcore, throw in a Qbank (just IMHO, I would have done it). Some people talk about BSS,but I have no experience with it. Have your First Aid (I glanced through it through my 2nd year), do webpath if you have the time, listen to goljan, but really, learn your stuff well.

I hope I made sense 🙄I'm celebrating with a glass of a good Syrah my return to school, 3rd year <sarcasm> bleh.
