Just wondering if there are any IMG/FMG's out there who matched into Internal Med, if so would you mind posting your stats (Step 1 score, Step 2 score, interviews, and where you matched anything else you think is helpful). I in my third year and am thinking about internal med and am wondering what I'm up against for next year.

Thanks.

O c'mon this is internal med there has to be FMG's/ IMG's that matched. If you would like to maintain anoniminity I'll settle for where you matched or your scores. Is there another thread that would be better to find this info?

Thanks in advance for sharing.

I don't mind sharing... US IMG from Ireland, originally from California. Matched at U of Arizona. Interviews at Cedars, UVa, Wash U, UofA, U Hawaii, UVM (Vermont), Santa Barbara Cottage. Step 1 225, Step 2 220.

Best of luck next year.

I have matched to my #1 choice UT Houston. 😍
Step 1: 250, Step 2: 264
Good luck to you all for the next year!

matched to uni. of Mississippi first choice 😎 ..step 1= 232, step 2= 239..good luck

Matched into Drexel University School of Medicine......for IM

step 1-250, step 2-257.....

Matched at Mayo Clinic (Rochester) last year (doing internship now).
Step 1 243, step 2 ck 273, pass step 2 cs 1st attempt, fresh graduate (Applied even before I graduated), 1 month USCE at Mayo, 1 LoR from Mayo Cardiologist, some research but not too much, top 5% of class.

Hope this helps. 👍

although im not in im, i have friends that did match into. but dont let just those guys who posted here, be indicative to you with scores. there are lots of imgfmgs, who matched with lower scores than 99s in both steps..
you can do it if you work hard..

You know, when I first heard that SDN was full of the top 99th percentile of medical students I did not believe it until I saw the MCAT thread (with 60% with 35+) and these types of threads with IM interns with 230+.

I would hate to think people are artifically inflating their scores.

People might be inflating their egos by posting high scores or it could be that people who score more than 90 only post on forums...IM is not compettive among AMG's but it has become competitive for IMG's especially coz everyone among IMG's applies to IM[ mostly] coz surgical branches are hard to come by..I have personally met some IMG's with double 99's and I have couple of my friends who scored double 99 although one of them is a brilliant guy who had already done his Im residency in his home country..hemoglobin's scores r true too coz she was in other forums by the name 'Tac'[ forums for IMG's] n thats y she is in Mayo[ which i assume is IVY league]..most IM programs[ especailly-- Emory, UT Houston, Baylor, Mayo, UAB, Uni. Of Colorado which do take few IMG's] don't even call IMG applicants for interviews if their scores r less than perfect[ which means more than 95 on average]..n if one needs visa it becomes more difficult..i know MSU east lansing people told me that they had put me on waiting list as they were considering applicants with both scores more than 97..they eventually did call me for interview[ may b coz someone cancelled their interview there :luck: ]..but not everyone is lying on forums..i wish programs would release stats of applicants once they matched to public..may b this would solve our innate habbit of doubting everything..no offence to anyone..good luck

IMG

Matsched this year in prelim internal and anesthesia categorial, scores below 210 but above 200 in both steps. Yes you can do it.

Dear McGillGrad,

I would also hate to think that people are inflating their scores, however, I doubt that this is an issue here. In order for us, IMGs, to match at a good program, it is almost a requirement to have 90+ scores. (Although this is not an "offical" requirement, I am sure it is an "unnoficial" one). Also, I believe your view is a biased one, since applicants who scored 90+ are more likely to post their scores in a public forum than applicants who scored 75-85. I might be wrong, but this is how I see it.
Believe me, when I started the whole process of studying for the steps and putting the application together, I was absolutely clueless. I had no idea of what was expected of me. Seeing the scores and credentials of successful IMGs who matched at good programs provided me with tremendous guidance and helped me direct my goals at the time. I hope this continues to be valuable for prospective applicants.

I am somewhat embarrassed now because I neglected to remember that this is a thread for IMG's and not American grads. My apologies. The scores make absolute sense now.

Apology accepted 😀

Hi Tac ..how is it going?..i know u don't remember me but i remember u from other forums..good luck with ur residency 😎

I know a double 99 candidate(with no US experience) who could'nt match at drexel, slu, arkansas.... i guess US experience counts a lot. Plus a US masters would help...guys who took the GRE route have a definite advantage(cause u have a masters plus research done during ur masters...this pre residency research helps even when u apply for a fellowship).

Plus The gift of Gab... that look of intensity..the glitter in ur eyes which conveys the enthusiasm... all the while making it look real and not melodramatic(if unfortunately u have to fake ur enthusiasm). Also how u perform at the interview matters. U really have to pick up the knack of steering the conversation at the interview..how to market ur strengths...how to make ur strengths comeout in ur conversation casually.... to make the interviewer want u bad..heheh.
