After doing some rotations and changing my mind several times I decided to apply to PMR. I have 229/95 step 1 and 247/99 on step 2. rank 1 in my carribbean school. I have a surg letter, but do not have a PMR letter, and if I were to get one it would not be until I complete my PMR rotation in september. Can I still apply without a PMR LOR and update it later, or will this reduce my chances at interviews?

I actually decided I don't want to do ortho anymore after an ortho rotation. As far as rads is concerned, I spoke about it with my dad whose a physician, and he'd actually prefer if I went into PMR bc I would be able to help him with his private office, so PMR at a good program is definitely my choice over rads at a random program. I am not applying to PMR as a back-up, I am applying to both with equal interest, and based on the interviews I receive and which program interests me and looks like the best fit for me ( quality of program, location, etc) I would choose that program. I honestly don't believe in back-ups anymore, because I've realized this is my career, the rest of my life, this isn't just education, so I definitely have a desire for PMR, being that I Have a strong background in neuro as well as an interest in musculoskeletal! 🙂

thanks alot! hopefully this all works out-- keep my fingers crossed.

Your scores are solid, as is your transcript if you’re ranked #1 in your class. You’ll get interviews. Get the PM&R letter in as soon you can, as it will definitely enhance your overall application. During interviews, you’ll have to honestly address the radiology thing – which sounds like you already have based on your posts. Good luck.
