Hi, I'm an IMG currently starting 5th year (6 year curriculum). I finished my basic sciences a year ago. Instead of waiting until I finish medschool to do the steps like most IMGs do, I would like to start studying for them and pass them before I graduate.
I have some questions regarding the viabilityof my study plan.
Since I'm in a clinical year, I can't invest too much time on this. My plan is to study 3-4 hours a day (more on weekends) for 12 months. I want to do 2 main blocks. 4 months of basic sciences and 4 months of integrated organ systems.
I'm using various reasources. FA, Goljan, Pathoma, Uworld and books for every subject (mostly from the High Yield series). I might alsouse the Kaplan High Yield videos. I'll try to read FA atleast 3 times, do a round of UWorld every 1-2 months and do atleast 4 NBMEs.
Here's an example of what I might do and what books I might use.
I selected easy subjects for February (trauma) because I have 36 hour shifts every 4 days without having the next day off, and for July (ENT) because we tend to leave the hospital late (7-8pm) for that rotation.
I did GREAT in my clinical years, top 10% of my class. However I feel that I've lost this year at the hospital most of what I knew. My school skimmed over anatomy, statistics, embryology and micro. I feel that I know next to nothing of those subjects.
I'm a really hyperactive person that can't focus on long tasks, so the most I ever studied in a day back in preclinicals was 3-4 hours. I mostly used Anki to study. I'm also good at cramming, on my OB/GYN rotation I didn't really study, I would just cram everything (BluePrints) the night before and would pass my tests.
I would appreciate any feedback. My main concern is getting organized and creating an appropriate schedule.
