Hello peeps i've been reading the thread and seems like alot of people are getting a bunch of interviews. But, i hope most of those are AMGs. How are my fellow IMGs doing on interviews?

My husband is an IMG and he has 1 interview. It sounds like Neuro programs are getting more applicants than ever before. Also all applicants are told to apply to as many programs as possible so many are applying to all 100+ ....then all the AMG are getting interview spots (even at places they'd not want to go)....
I'm trying to be hopeful..

IMG here, haven't gotten an interview yet. I've gotten plenty of rejections though. Seems like there are a lot more applicants this year. The University of Nebraska, in their rejection email, said that there was 700 applicants for 4 spots, if I recall correctly. I haven't heard from the vast majority of places yet and I applied to 84 programs.

Keep your head up guys. Remember that in the last few years around 40% of incoming neurology residents are IMG.

AMG here; we are told to apply broadly, and I think there is an uptick in neuro interest this year. Probably not the best news for IMGs.

That probably makes sense as to why programs are getting anywhere from 700-1000 applications this year. I'm still hopeful though.

Ok. So, stupid question, but how are programs getting 700-1000 applications. Is EVERY neuro applicant applying to EVERY program? I mean there was only like 18,000 graduates in 2014 according to AAMC, even adding in DO and IMG it still seems like a ridiculously high number.
But again. I'm new around here and I don't understand.

Thanks.

I think very soon that American students whom are holding on to a lot of interviews are going to start dropping interviews in mass. I think sometime in November that we will see a lot of schools (particularly lower tier and possibly some mid tiers) start giving out interviews again. I have friends holding on to interviews to schools they would not consider going to but are holding out for more interviews. For now, I still think a lot of people are holding on to more interviews than what they actually intend on going to. I think this is also true for prelim spots. The neurology applicants have to compete with dermatology, rad onc, and other subspecialties for prelims. It is expected that some of the more competitive residencies will start giving interviews this and next week. This will generate interview conflict dates for these applicants and they will possibly have to drop some of their collected prelim interviews to make space.

lets keep our heads up my friends! rejections won't keep us down...!
