Hey guys, I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to increase healing so that I could regain feeling in my lip and upper chin area. I also don't have much feeling along the gums either. It has been 2 weeks since the extraction and I have been reading up a lot on it. I have been taking a lot of vitamin supplements because I read that Vitamin B12 could possibly help speed up healing time. Are there any other suggestions that you guys would have to possibly help speed this up or give me a better chance of it actually healing?

Also I was wondering if alcohol consumption would slow down healing or halt the healing of the nerves. I know alcohol slows the transmission of signals between the nerves but does it counteract with the healing process of nerves?

Thanks for all your help.

when you have your wisdom teeth extracted, there's always a small risk that the nerve will be severed and you'll lose feeling forever. still, having your wisdom teeth extracted with that risk is worth it because keeping those teeth means having a breeding ground for periodontal disease. by having them out, you have less risk of getting perio disease..and perio disease is a chronic condition that costs a LOT of money and time to manage and if you dont manage it, then you will lose all of your teeth.

What are you talking about??????????? For the love of God and the sake of our profession, please do not tell your patients that by not having their wizzies removed, they will lose all their teeth. This information is just flat out wrong. I would like to hear your logic..

To the OP: this is not the place for medical advice.

Future periodontist in the making perhaps? 😛

i was explaining one risk (not guarantee) of keeping your wisdom teeth.

"Wisdom teeth (third molars) are a major breeding ground for the bacteria that cause periodontal disease, according to research presented at the 2005 annual meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons."

This is BS.I had my WT removed 15 years later, no problems. You need to see neurologist, to get advise. What I know B complex ingectable, laser, accupuncture.

This unfortunately is a complication of wisdom teeth extraction. Talk to your oral surgeon. You should have contacted them right away and he would have prescribes a medrol dose pack (dunno how effective it is now). In 90% of cases the sensation comes back within a few months. Now go talk to your oral surgeon.

And I have no idea what stephie3 is talking about.. Lol

This really isn't a problem. You will now know what your patients mean when they say they want a dentist with empathy.

This is why we don't allow medical advice threads on SDN. Everyone already has a diagnosis and treatment lined up for the patient without even having seen them in person. Closing thread.
