I know there are many bright people on SDN with 4.0's and 35+ mcats, but I was wondering if anyone on here has any stories of acceptance with less than stellar gpas and mcats. I'm just curious if anyone has pretty much been to the edge of the abyss (horrible grades, drops, retakes all that good stuff) and somehow rebounded later in their college career and started making good grades and got a solid upward trend going. I want to hear some stories that give me hope for being accepted somewhere eventually lol.

Couple things..
1) New house episode comes on tonight!! Kick ass!!

2) You do relize there are many extents to which this could happen. But also keep in mind that your definition of abysmal may be VERY different from others on here. I think you would better serve your purpose by mentioning HOW abysmal...

But!! you could also check out MDapplicants.com and just browse a bit..

I was put on academic probation for two semesters and had a bunch of retakes. I ended up with a very strong upward trend in my undergrad, a great post-bacc GPA, and a strong MCAT score. My AACOMAS stats were very competitive as a result. My AMCAS GPA's were less than stellar due to the fact that it doesn't just include the latest retake when calculating your GPA like AACOMAS. Nevertheless, I've received a bunch of DO interviews, 1 DO acceptance, and an MD interview so far. I haven't heard back from any other schools yet, so no rejections so far.

I hope this is encouraging and lifts your spirits. Feel free to PM if you need anything.

I had some academic difficulties. If you wanna know more, read my blog.

It does make me feel a lot better, I just want to make sure my hardwork isnt for nothing since I kind of have a bad academic past.

Ignore SDN bright people because in the end, there's going to be one million people smarter than you and one million people not smarter....try your best and the world will be a better place

I could be wrong here 'n all but I suspect you might be slightly underestimating the size of the world.... Jk but on a serious note. Yes, it could happen. You could check the amcas grid or selection spreadsheet for a better idea...
