How important are school averages for GPA and GRE? I'm looking at schools to visit in Michigan and right now I attend Central Michigan University. CMICH has a DPT program, along with a few other schools in Michigan. I see the average GPA for an incoming DPT student here is around 3.6, GRE is around 1050. The GPA seems pretty high from what I've seen from people posting around here, but I'm not too sure what to think on the stats.

Those stats are real. Look on the GPA sticky and you can see some GPAs that are actually pretty high. Remember, not everyone knows about SDN.

Some programs post their average on-line, such as University of South Florida and their incoming class is around a 3.8ish with a 3.6-3.7 pre-req GPA. Oh, please believe it, the 3.6 for Central Michigan is real.

jbizzle is right. I just found out about SDN a few days ago AFTER i had turned in all my apps and been accepted to my the schools i applied for. The "better" school have more rigorous admission standards and those statistics that are posted are of course the mean GPAs and GRE scores so there will be scores lower and higher. Depending on the school, GRE scores may or may not have a large impact on the selection process. They usually look more at your GPA, rather than GREs; however, they're known to really look at you AW score on the GRE, well my first choice school in particular (TWU Houston).

If you GRE and GPA scores match up or exceed that of the university's incoming average for last year, then you should be fine. Different schools, different standards. Don't go by what people are posting here as they are looking to go into different schools and their GPAs may be higher or lower. The higher your scores, the better. it's as simple as that.

I take everything that people say on here with a grain of salt. Seems like there's lots of people on here inflating numbers to freak others out, in my opinion. A 3.6 GPA from an "easy" school won't mean any more to admissions committees than a 3.2 at a "hard" school. GPAs and GRE scores matter, but just depends on the school...

I figured that the stat were all taken differently for each school, I was just a little surprised when I saw that a 3.6 was my school's average.

I would really prefer to get into Grand Valley over Central Michigan's program though, although I think I would have an easier time getting in at Cmich since I'm doing my undergrad here.
