I have a question...lets say one got waitlisted at his number one school...do u guys think having the Alumni that you know and ur advisor calling the school talking to them about you or putting a word in helps?? 🙂

I think who you know can play a HUGE factor in your acceptance. I currently work at a University and I see it happen all the time. It's also amazing how simple something as the admissions director's mood on any given day can play a role in an applicant's status.

I'm sure it can't hurt especially if the person calling on your behalf is a well known alumni. Every little bit helps.

If it's a ranked waitlist, then not necessarily. In theory you couldn't move up it until the people ahead of you have been given offers.

I'm sure it can't hurt, but remember - it can't do anything unless someone else says no to your school. Last year I knew someone who was waitlisted at thier #1 school and no one said no to that school so he didn't get in last year!

When on a waitlist it never hurts to send the schools updated activites/updated grades. You want to keep contact somehow and this is the perfect way IMO.
