I'm most likely going to be completing an a PGY-1 residency next year with an emphasis in Ambulatory care. I wanted to get your opinions on what readings/clinical trials I should be familiar with...I know that obviously I'll have to know the guidlines for DM, HTN, Dyslip, Anticoag etc...The program I hope to be placed with is going to have DM, HTN, Anticoag, Dyslipidemia clinics as well as specialty clinics in Anemia, CHF, Thyriod, Enteral Nutrition, COPD, Neurology, ID and Geriatrics and also a month of internal medicine.

Here are the trials/guidelines I came up with so far...I'm using the abbreviations if anyone wants more specifics let me know... Let me know if there are any you think are "must reads" for a lowly resident...

JNC guidelines
ADA guidelines
CHEST guidelines
HOPE
ALLHAT
MERIT

JNC is a light read.

Read the IDSA guidelines and learn your antimicrobials.

New CHEST recommendation comes out this fall. Current CHEST is old but useful.

Read the block buster trialas OASIS 5 and 6.

Read the trials that involve large $ implications...usually LMWH, Hematopoeitics..etc.

ATP III guidelines for lipids. I use the journal, Clinical Infection DIsease for alot of random guidelines for antimicrobail use

There's a brand new COPD trial which just came out a few weeks ago, the TORCH trial. You might want to take a look at that.
