I am not sure how familiar eveyone here is with the Official DAT process that is going on this year, but here is an update that will hopefully keep people from having to run around through hoops like I did to figure out what is going on.

- Basically here is the story. Starting this year, the DAT scores attatched to the AADSAS application are now official. This means that AADSAS accepting schools will have your official scores sent along with your application. This sounds great but it raises one problem that I think is very important.

UNLESS YOU PREVIOUSLY RELEASED YOUR SCORES TO YOUR DESIGNATED SCHOOLS, AADSAS WILL NOT SEND SCORES TO THESE SCHOOLS AND THEY WILL NOT RECIEVE THE SCORES.

This is extremely important, because when I contacted some schools, they informed me that the only way they will acccept offical scores is through AADSAS, not in paper form from the ADA.

The good news is that once you go online to the ADA website and pay $25 dollars per school on an electronic request, AADSAS will automatically update your released school list, and as I now understand it, send them out.

If you have any questions you can try to reach out to AADSAS or ADA, but both are really bogged down with calls, and both get pretty upset if you ask too many questions. I think they assume everyone will automatically just know that this is all going on?

Anyways I hope that this helps at least someone out there!

so you say if we put , eg. BU when taking DAT, we have to pay another $25 to ADA to get our score updated in AADSAS? 😕

I did the following:

1) When I registered for the DAT I requested my scores be released to 5 schools (free charge with registration).

2) I released scores to additional schools at a later date ($25 a school).

So I think I'm covered. Right?

this whole thing is not pretty.
I called all my school and only 3 of them said ADA only..the rest said Aadsas will do it.

I feel like I have no idea what's going on now.

I paid $25 for each school.

According to everywhere I've read, it neither hurts nor helps to pay the $25 per school.

At any rate, I'm assuming I'm covered since I shelled out a couple hundred bucks to the ADA.🙄

could i ask where you heard this?? this is my first time hearing anything like it...if you 'release' your scores how is that different than the ADA sending a score report to your schools?

ok..
'release my score'
how do i do this? paying $25?
I checked schools and they told me score on AADSAS is official.
if i dont release my score, they can't look my score?

Ok let's try to clear up some of this confusion...

As long as you release your scores when you take the DAT you are covered. So if you put that you wanted to realase your scores to say UW on you original test, AADSAS can release these scores and send them with your application. I am saying that unless you did this, then they won't be sent.

What you must do next is go logon to ADA and get you scores, only electronically released to other school to which you are applying, and AADSAS will get an update and then send out your application. 2 of the schools which I did not originally designate on my DAT release form told me they are now only accepting official AADSAS sumbission, not in the form of an ADA official release paper form.

I called both the ADA and AADSAS to confirm this information, so if anyone has other questions I am happy to help.

- Yes you are covered if you released your scores to your designated schools when you registered for the DAT.

- Yes you are covered if you ELECTRONICALLY released your scores to the other schools because AADSAS gets notification of this and will then attach your scores the application for those schools.

- I am confused on how dental schools consider it different, but I know two schools I contacted whom I didn't originally designate said that the information must be on the AADSAS application and that the supplemental application information listed is incorrect...

- You would think for the money we all pay to apply that they would have this kind of stuff updated? guess not... hope this clears it up

This seems contradictory to some other information on the board.

To my understanding, this year, the DAT score is just a new section on your overall AADSAS application and goes out with the rest of your stuff. And since they do mailings en masse, I don't know how likely it is they would just withhold your scores from some schools.

Ya I saw that there was other contradictory information on the board, and that is why i created this thread in the first place! to help other people and avoid the stuff i went through. I called AADSAS and ADA and got confirmation, and Unless your scores are released to your designated schools the scores only go out to those previously 'released' and do not go out with you application to those 'unreleased' schools. I talked to the woman in charge of official sccores from the ADA and this is what she told me. I then called AADSAS and got confirmation that this was 100% correct in how the process worked followed by the confirmation of two dental schools. Feel free to call ADA and AADSAS and I would encourage all of you to do so if you are confused, but this is what they told me.

I just gave another to AADSAS and got the following information:
For people who took the DAT between 2007-Feb 10, 2010, ADA will automatically forward scores to AADSAS, so you are all set.

For those who took the DAT after Feb 10, 2010, you need to pay ADA additionally in order for AADSAS to receive the scores. HOWEVER, my DAT was taken on Mar. 1, 2010, and AADSAS did receive my scores from ADA already. In this case, the representative told me that as long as AADSAS received my scores, my scores will be included in ALL of my designated schools that I applied for with AADSAS. It is up to the schools to decide whether they accept DAT scores in AADSAS application official or not. In case they don't, you will need to pay ADA to send the official scores to them. (some schools replied me with sth like I need to release my scores to them so they can see?!)

In any case, my impression is as long as AADSAS is able to import your scores from ADA, as evidenced by the "date taken" and "date received" information under "official DAT scores", the scores will be included in the AADSAS application.

So far, the information I got from AADSAS has been consistent and contradictory to what OP said. Did you happen to ask how technically AADSAS manage to only release your scores to certain schools and not others?
Were your DAT scores imported to AADSAS from ADA?

No they did not give me the details on how the schools would not recieve the information if it was not released to them. They just said that the schools which I had not previously designated would not be able to view my scores.

Yes my date taken and date recieved table is up on my AADSAS application with my correct dates.

The People at the ADA and at AADSAS said once you submit a score request electronically through them, then the can add other released schools to the AADSAS application.

I am assuming that yes they can control who sees your scores and who can't, because otherwise why would they make you pay for the score report and release school by school? Why wouldn't they just make you list you wanted 5 schools to be designated later or something like that? I dont know I am just going by what I was told?

Let me know if you have any other updates

This is what I assumed.

What a mess, though. I took my DAT at the end of March and my score has been "received" by AADSAS. Am I wrong to assume that it will show up on my application when they send it out to the schools?

This is freaking annoying. No one can give us a conclusive answer. I'm going to call them both in about an hour and see. I honestly think the ADA is being sketchy about this, because of their potential loss in revenue.

I called AADSAS again. DATlongshui is 100% correct. You will only pay $25 additional fee only when school would like to see the score through ADA. I believe the confusion is coming from the fact that OP stated as if all the schools wanted to look at released score from ADA, and not taking the score forwarded with AADSAS, however, that's not the case.

Most schools will now accept AADSAS DAT score as if it were official and they wouldn't require for ADA to release the score (this is when $25 additional cost incurs).

The bottom line is this ... AS LONG AS AADSAS has your official SCORE RECEIVED, you're all set. It's up to schools to decide.

So to wrap up. CALL YOUR SCHOOLS and see whether you need to order another "official" DAT score sent to them from ADA, or whether they're going to accept the scores from AADSAS this year.

/end of thread 😀

I called USC, UOP, Buffalo, and NYU and was told DAT score on AADSAS is all they need. 100% confirmed. Anybody else called other schools? BTW, where is the phone number of UCLA?

I took my DAT in March 2010, but my score was still automatically imported to my app last week. I called AADSAS and was told that if your app shows that they recieved your DAT score (as DATlongshui said), you are set. You don't need to pay ADA to send your score to AADSAS.
