So i am a little lost as to how the timeline for applications work

ive been hearing so many differnt things as to when what is verified and when it opens and when it closes and when schools get your info etc etc...

is there a thread or place that gives all relevant dates?

im signed up for the april 17th mcat right now, but might postpone to may 17 or may 1st even, but i just want to know how the whole application process works, because i want to be as early as possible
when do we send transcripts, LOR, anything else?

i can't think of one specific thread. there may be one if you do a search. the msar might be of help, as well as the amcas website.

for allopathic schools you send the transcripts and lors to the amcas people. http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/ read their instruction manual.

- AMCAS opens in mid-May, so you can begin filling out your application then.
- For transcripts, you can send them in once you register in AMCAS because you have to print out this paper that has to be attached to your transcripts when you send them out.
- For LORs, if you haven't started collecting them, start NOW!
- Early June (usually the first week) is when you can actually submit your application.
- AMCAS doesn't release applications to medical schools until July 24th.

It's OK to take your MCAT in May because you can still submit your primary application without the MCAT score and be verified early. Once your MCAT score is released, it'll automatically upload into AMCAS. You'll still be pretty early, so no worries.

why so late?

So even if you write the June 17th MCAT (and as long as you completed your other stuff already), you would still be in the first batch of students to get secondaries??

yeah you see, i don't get that, because if you submit your application the first day it comes out, June 2nd i think? and then you get verified within the week or 2 makes it june 14, so shouldnt you be before those that do their primaries later (June 6th, etc...)??

Can someone please shed some light on this? If AMCAS doesnt send your primaries to medical schools until July 24th...then as long as you are verified by then, what's the difference between applying June 5th and say July 1st?

Thanks!

Maybe - you should get some from the schools that send one to everybody. Your scores wouldn't come out until July 20-somethingth, so some schools that screen wouldn't give you one until they have a score.

I'm not totally sure about that, it depends on whether schools want to send the secondaries to someone without an MCAT score. I do know for a fact that you cannot be complete at schools until you have a score.

You won't get verified quickly if you apply July 1st. Submit on day one and it might take 2 hours to 2 days to get verified.
