What a mess I have created and really need advise on how to undo it. I have a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology (strike one against me, although I would do it over). While completing my dissertation and my doctorate I was pretty sure that I did not want to go the licensing route. So, I opted out of completing my 1500 pre-doc. hrs. (strike two against me - although I do have some training on the masters level, but quite some years ago).

Now, I am 100% certain that I want to get licensed but cannot seem to find a post-doc. fellowship that will take me without the pre-doc. training.

What do I do? Someone had suggested that I find a pre-doc. internship even though I already have my doctorate degree. Is that possible? I called the board but have not received a call back and need advice. How do I get out of this bind?

Any advise and/or leads are greatly appreciated.😕😕😕

Maybe a clinical psychology respecialization program would be one option? I think that that's probably not what you're hoping to hear, since it involves going back to school and takes three years (I believe). It's a thought, though.

Thanks for your response psy86. Your right. My knee jerk reaction is NO!!!! and I truly hope that I have other options. Although, it I will keep it in mind if all else fails.

saybrook, right?

You are going to have to do between 1300-2000 pre doc internship hrs, plus 2000-3000 post doc hrs. that excludes practicum. factor in a minimum of 450hrs (although i know of no one that had that few) per year for practicuum, times 2 (one for assessment, one for therapy) = approx 900hrs. I imagine many would consider my estimate beyond conservative.

We all had to do it.

There really is no way around needing this many hours. Some respecialization programs can facillitate this accumulation of hrs, but this is the standard for psychologist's education.
