Hello to everyone;

I'm new to this site (just registered today) and I'm hoping that someone/anyone will please help me out.

I'm currently 28 (soon to be 29) and I am highly interested in pursing the field of pharmacy. However, my concern is my age. I had a pharmacy tech license but it has since expired. Also, I'm at the beginning of this whole process. Before registering, I read how many students on this forum have degrees, or was working in another field prior to going into pharmacy.

I guess my question is, "Is it too late for me?" I've been through a rough start in life and for once am finally taking time to go for what I want but I'm just so worried/stressed that I won't make it. For starters, I'm close to 30 and just now starting school for pharmacy. I currently don't have any kids but would like to believe that before I finish with the program, I will have a family.

Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Do some searching on the forum here for information but to answer your question: No it's not too late. It's never too late to change fields. However, you will need to complete coursework and get LORs and ECs like every other student. If you have pharmacy experience then that's good but keep going for more to help you out.

A lot of people are in your shoes nowadays so do a few searches here online and look at programs near you and see what you can do. Ask any specific questions and we can try to help. Also contact other schools you are interested in for their advice as well. Some schools offer programs for people to get their pre-reqs done quickly like for med school (2 years in and out with them priming you for med school) and I think that could work for you as well due to the overlap.

There are several people in my class in their mid to late 30s and at least two I can think of in their 40s.

It's never too late 😉

Some kid at the bank told me he was envious I was going to school, and said it was "too late" for him because he was "too old". I just laughed...when I asked him how old he was, he replied "24". More laughing ensued.

The age thing is not a big deal. I'm 32 and starting pharmacy school in the fall. Like you, I do not have kids now, but am married and probably will start having them during pharm school.

As far as the application/interview/acceptance process goes, I think my age and "life experience" was more of an advantage than a disadvantage. The adcoms see so many virtually identical packets that I think every applicant can benefit from having something a little different to set him/her apart from the crowd.

Hey there. I'm another non-trad and I'll graduate from school in my 30s. It's never too late (well, maybe if you were 85...)

What I'd like to do is caution you against planning for a pregnancy during pharmacy school. We have one brave student that is 3 months pregnant and she's already having a heck of a time making sure she will have the requisite time off and that she won't far terribly behind. But, if you really want to put yourself through that, nothing I can say will change your mind.

Welcome to the forum.
