you probably won't like dentistry, and probably will end up as one of those dentists who committed suicide.

troll? no really im not trying to piss anyone off, sorry if i did. these are honest questions.

I know everyone in the pre-med forums probably told you that you could walk into any dental school in the nation with a sub-3.0 and whatever you manage to belt on on the DAT.

They were wrong, and like everyone keeps telling you, there are far easier ways to make money than the health professions...just get an MBA and start cranking!

Thats absolutely right. Most people have the misconception that they can graduate dental school and start making the big bucks. Although there are a few who can start off with a decent salary, a lot of graduates won't start off with six figure salaries. They will start off with six figure loan debts though. The work can also be physically and mentally demanding and unless you really have a true passion for dentistry, you just might end up being a part of those suicide statistics like TheDon said. There are definitely better ways of making money if that is all that makes you happy.

Dude, did you seriously title your post "in it for the $$" and not expect to be hazed? I hope you were just trying to get a rise out of us. What makes you think that a sub par GPA will get you into dental school? Have you looked at the websites of the schools? For the most part the gpa is higher than med. Even pharmacy school gpa is above a 3.0 and you're counting pills. For the record, you're going to have to get up everyday and get in someone's mouth. That has to be something that you will enjoy going to work everyday and doing. I'm so excited about it that I've had a ginormous erection since the day I got into school  . If you made six figures for wiping old ladies' asses would you do it? Personally I don't think I would because I'm not a big fan of wiping asses. Same goes with anything you choose.

This guy is clearly being facetious...look at his title. If he really cared, he wouldn't ask for the mere opinion of a few people on SDN, but actually do some research...like...I don't know...read a book or two about dentistry and maybe even talk to his pre-dent advisor??...

pharmacists do much more than "just count pills". find me a job that has the same income to workload/job security ratio with the same relatively easy level of entry as dentistry. people dont put in six figure investments into becoming a dentist just becuase they love helping people, thats what MD and social workers are for. its obvious dentists are in it for the money, kudos to those that admit, and may those that deny it rot in hell. God can hear ur lies.
