Hello,

I have a somewhat unique situation that I would like advice on. I am currently finishing up my FNP degree (I am in a 3 year BSN-MSN program for people who have a previous bachelor's degree), but can not shake this feeling that I would really like to go to medical school. In college I was premed, and completed all the premed requirements except for organic chemistry II. I was a biology major, but unfortunately decided not to complete orgo II after making the rash decision that med school was not right for me after going through a tough time personally my sophomore year. I also attended a university notorious for grade deflation, and one that grades premed courses on a bell curve. I averaged C+s to Bs in the med school prereqs. My junior and senior year my grades and GPA were excellent. In my grad program, I have been a straight A student. Do you think I have any chance of getting into medical school? Should I potentially plan to repeat the orgo sequence over the summer while I search for employment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It all depends...What are your EC's right now? What's your current cumulative gpa and science only gpa? Did you take the MCAT?

You did not provide enough information to accurately assess your chances.

I'm going to assume that your GPA is bet 3.0-3.3. You have zero change at a MD unless you kill that MCAT with a 515+ score. You might have a chance at a DO but you need both cgpa and scgpa to be above 3.5 along with a 505+ MCAT.

You can do it, but the real question you gotta be asking yourself is if it's worth it? Given your age (which I assume is older because I know it takes forever to become an FNP) and your life circumstances, plan out how long it would take for you to get into medical school, finish, do residency and finish, graduate with debt at Age X. And take into consideration all of the sacrifices you will be making in these next 7+ years to get there. Med school isn't just about getting in like everyone makes it out to be.... it's hard to get in BECAUSE it's hard to finish it once you're in. If you patiently plan out all the steps, consider the financial considerations, family on hold, etc. etc. and it still seems worth it then go for it. But many ppl regret their decision even entering from a young age, let alone at an older age. It's a personal choice, but I'm here to tell you you can make it if you want to, but at what cost is up to you to determine.

I believe you can do it, however like some others have said it will be very difficult and time consuming. You may need to retake some classes and dedicate some serious time to studying for the MCAT. As MADD said, you will want to decide if the time and energy will be worth it for you.
