Hi-
so someone please help me with advice...I applied to neuro and IM and low and behold -found out that I failed step 2..yup, don't know how I managed that. anyways, the real kicker is that I automatically released my scores so by now everyone of my programs has my failed step 2 score. Am I out of the game? If I retake the exam in a few weeks, get 90 plus, would it still be too late for interviews? What about applying to more programs? Is it even possible to get IM after failing step 2? or is family my only choice? My step one was a mere 82.
if someone has been in this situation or has any suggestion/ideas/advice..I'd really really appreciate it.
Thanks

I think you need to get drunk or something. Then go back to the drawing board and figure out why the hell you released your scores! Then figure out a good realistic story to tell on the interview trail. I bet they won't care too bad and that you will be fine--- assuming you get interviews. It is consistent with your step 1 grade though.... How are your clinical or basic science scores. Maybe you just don't test 5+ hours well.... which has nothing to do if you are going to be a good neurologist!
Chill out.

retake (after enough study time), and have a passing score submitted sometime between interviews and before the programs submit rank lists. A lot of interviews are in Dec./Jan, so if you can retake in Nov., then they could have your passing scores before you see them in person, which is the best bet b/c then this would just be a moot point.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice, really do appreciate it. I wasn't expecting to fail step 2, had mostly A's, some B's in preclinicals and Straight A's in clinical except OB..lol. The only thing I can honestly think of is that I just wasn't in the right frame of mind..but I'll come up with something better for the interviews.
My question is: is it difficult to scramble for prelim..I applied to IM as backup, but Neuro is what I definitely want. Will programs send out rejections or am I just at the bottom of the pile, so there is still some hope. Just curious. Also What about scrambling for Neuro, is it even possible. Just want to know everything about the worst case senario...
Thanks again,
