I was cited with an underage drinking ticket a month ago, and today I had my hearing, upon some negotiation the prosecutor agreed that something like this should not hinder my chances of getting into pharmacy school. However, I would have to show him SOLID proof that an underage drinking ticket would seriously hurt my chances of getting in pharmacy school (something we all know), so that he will drop the charges.

Basically what I am saying is does anyone know where I can find SOLID proof that underage drinking will seriously hurt my chances of getting into pharmacy school / a pharmacy profession so that I can get this ticket dropped and have a clean record?

Also any resources where it specifically states "underage drinking will decrease your chances of acceptance" would be tremendous help.

Please keep this post clean of:
18 vs 21 argument on underage drinking
DUIs because this topic has nothing to do with drinking and driving
If underage drinking represents a pre health professional well, (obviously it doesn't or I wouldn't be here asking for help).

By stating keeping the post clean of these topics I am not belittling their damaging effect I am just stating that it side tracks the topic at hand and doesn't help me with my current situation and they have their place in other parts of the forum.

EDIT: I am currently contacting dean of admissions at one of the schools I plan on possibly attending. Thanks for the help Passion4Sci

Please keep posts clean I don't care about the underage drinking argument or DUIs or any of that BS that these forums get flooded with as soon as people see the word "alcohol" its just an underage ticket I am 19 its not the end of the world.

You could check out your state's Board of Pharmacy rules about who they'll issue intern licenses to. I'm by no means an authority on the matter, but if you're not eligible for an intern license I believe you are ineligible to matriculate into pharmacy school. If a MIP / other drug-related charge will prevent or interfere with you getting an intern license then you might be able to use that.

You could also directly contact a pharmacy school (or more than one) that you wish to apply to, or have applied to already, and ask them for written statement on their policy regarding applicants with recent drug-related infractions / convictions.

The last line of your post is a tad troubling but that's a discussion for another day.

P4Sci gave you the two best tips: Check your state's BOP website or the school's websites concerning this offense. If that fails, contact the school's directly. Something else to consider is that even if the charges are not dropped completely you may be able to have your criminal record sealed.

The bolded part is disgusting. That attitude has no place in a professional program. I hope this incident matures you - that is a terrible attitude for any potential health professional to have. A DUI can be career ender by the way, you can lose your license over that. A DUI is much, much worse than an underage drinking violation. Everyone makes mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them and grow. What is more important to you, becoming a pharmacist or drinking? I will stop before I say something I will regret.

Good Luck! :luck:

I am simply stating that I want people to stick to the topic on hand, first and foremost because this topic has NOTHING TO DO WITH A DUI so I do not want anyone bringing it up to begin with. Second of all, everyone slips up every once in a while just because you haven't gotten caught drinking underage doesn't put you above me. I drink maybe once every 3 months it just so happened that the police got involved this time its not like I am drinking every weekend. But what does it matter the topic has gotten side tracked already.

The underage drinking argument is: whether or not the drinking age should be 18 or 21. It is what it is and arguing on a forum will do nothing to change that, and it distracts people from the topic at hand, which is finding solid proof that underage drinking could hinder my chances at becoming a pharmacist which we all know it does the problem is obtaining the proof.

An attitude like that makes one less likely to receive the help that they request on a message board ... Good luck finding the proof that you need before you burn any more bridges.

LOL Now you are in need of serious help. You've been reported and frankly, I hope that you don't act this impulsively in the future. 🙂

We have. You have got great advice from several of us. And I agree that everyone makes mistakes, myself included. I do not think I am better than you. I gave you my advice, you may take it or leave it.

Honestly I don't think you will find what you are looking for. I know a few people in pharmacy school and a few who have already graduated that got MIPS before getting in. It might hurt your application a bit but the only proof you will get of that is a written letter from someone on the adcom of a pharmacy school.

It would be expected that you explain the MIP in any professional school application and reflect on how you have changed and are now more responsible, mature, etc. The time since the ticket is not very long, so it would be difficult to make a convincing argument that you have moved past this youthful indiscretion. You also lack remorse (other than getting caught) and are pretty agressively unapologetic, so I don't see how any school would look at your history and think they are getting anything other than a kid who has growing up to do before he is ready to come into their program.

Just a thought.. when you contact the schools/board, email them so you have something in writing otherwise I think the prosecutor may not accept it.
