How many of you practicing dentists are utilizing an anesthesia provider for in-office general anesthesia (GA)? What are the pro's and con's of in-office GA vs GA in a hospital or surgery center (are you able to collect a separate facility or office fee for performing the procedure in your office rather than an ASC?)? How are you compensating your anesthesia providers (out of your professional fee, billing the patients, billing the insurance company?)? Who is recovering the patients who are immediately post GA (an RN, DA, LPN?)? I'm interested because my practice is exploring possible opportunities to provide sedation and even GA for in-office procedures. Our current stance on GA for in-office procedures would be take the patient to an ASC, which would have all necessary emergency equipment and more skilled personnel as well as a designated post-anesthesia care unit staffed with specialized PACU RN's. Your thoughts would be appreciated...👍
