I have a degree in cognitive science, and I have studied some psychiatry, but I am not an M.D. I am doing informal research, which brings me to your forum with a specific question.
I understand DSM-IV-TR is outdated, but I am still curious about something I see in it. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV-TR (DSM-IV-TR) (2000), pp. 323–326:
I am curious about the DSM’s selection of “Mafia hit men” as an example.
Can anyone cite a study showing that fear of “Mafia hit men” tends to be a delusion?
Can anyone cite a study showing that fear of “Mafia hit men” tends to be unwarranted by circumstance?
