I can't decide. I've gone through all the +s and -s and I don't know what to do.

UIC is cheaper, although I don't know yet by how much over the course of four years.

Rush students in general are happier.

UIC provides more research opportunities.

Rush's administration is very helpful.

Blah blah, the list goes on and on.

Please help me!!! 😕 😕 😕

to add to the dilemma...i recently met a Rush student who does research at UIC...so he gets the best of both worlds...the price tag is too high though...i think UIC's match list is pretty good, if not better than Rush's...combine that with 1/2 price tuition and I chose UIC...Rush was sooooooooooooo nice though 🙁....but hey, my loans start accruing interest from day one, and if i have to rough it for 1/2 price, it's okay with me...

good luck with ur decision!

Hello,
I had the same problem, UIC or Rush? I had plenty of interaction with UIC COM over the past year, and quite frankly that's enough for me. I want out!
As far as tuition:
Rush is more exenspive not doubt about it. UIC is about $22,000 a year where Rush is 32,000 a year. But what UIC doesn't emphasize is that during your 3rd and 4th year clinicals you pay for the summer sessions. That's an additional $12,000 for the two years. To me it's worth the $28,000 more 4 years of happiness and support. Medical school is hard enough without the added difficulties of being miserable with the institiution you attend.

I hope this statement doesn't sound like its biased but I think most of the statements have some truths and some misdirection. I agree UIC might not have the greatest administrative staff (what do you expect from a state non for profit school that is always in deficit vs. a private for-profit institution). Medical school is not about how friendly the secretaries are (even though I must admit, Kerry at Rush is amazing), or who will hold your hand throughout the process (i.e., schmidt vs. girotti j/k), its about the student. I personally think that one should choose between the two based upon their own goal and the schools'. I personally really want to work on a broader aspect... of improving health in underserved communities and I think UIC really has done a tremendous job in outreach programs, research etc. Even though I heard that UIC might have a "better rank and residency match", that is not indicative of the medical school as a whole. there is a lot more to it than that. I also had to include the financial aspect of it when deciding amongst schools to attend, tuition is cheaper and with interest that $30K difference is more like $40K. good luck with your choice, hopefully you make the right one (UIC all the way, JK)
