In the Area email; to send or not to send?

I have an interview from a school in chicago; there are 2 other school in Chicago that I am applying to. What do you think of shooting an "in the area" email to these school? Yay or nay? It will save me a bunch of money/unnecessary hassle (I am flying from the Northeast)

your call. Any of those could be in the area. Personally, I would limit it to state.

I've heard a few anecdotes from people, like, "I sent one in the morning, and had had an invite in the afternoon!" But the vast majority of the time, it doesn't work. You've got little to lose, but don't expect anything to come of it.

I don't know that I'd recommend it; it's so early in the interview season. I suppose it won't damn your application, though.

Update:
Emailed both schools (Loyola and Northwestern,); both replied with a form letter that said they are reviewed in order of submission; if you are selected etc etc.

Yeah I got the same response from Jefferson. Actually, I didn't even get that much. I got a blank email with a 2 line form letter attached. Not even worth the effort of constructing a sentance apparently.

Honestly, that school is about as far down on my list as I most likely am on theirs...
