Inactivate license?

I went out and got a NY license, but ended up not moving there for a job after all. Is there any downside to inactivating a state license? Like having to report it when renewing another state’s license or some other stupid crap?

You have to report it if it's active too.

Save the money from having to renew it and make it inactive.

Getting a license is a PITA. Renewing it isn't hard but takes money. Make sure you wont want it in the future.

There is little downside to inactivation of a license or letting it expire on its own. Every hospital or surgery center in which you seek privileges, many insurance companies, and every new state where you seek licensure will perform primary document source verification regardless of whether the license is active or not. Limit the number of states medical licenses where you practice in order to avoid having to fill out scores of pages of past and present licensure queries. I cannot imagine being a locum tenens with licenses in 40 states.
