Given the dire predictions of $7, up to $10 gas, as well as the dying off of loan companies, have your medical schools discussed with the student body emergency measures for living expenses and tuition? Have they discussed capping tuition rates at certain levels without unexpected increases?

If not, why not?

When is this going to happen?? $80 investment in a bicycle from Walmart might be very helpful!!!

That is paranoia, the US financial system will move through this crisis. Loan companies will still continue to provide financial aid for students for at least another decade. This will be done though at the expense of the value of the US dollar on international exchanges.

Stop reading the sun and start reading the Journal. Also, try to think about the economy with at least an ounce of reason.

The Dept. of Energy is projecting the average price in '08 to be $3.36. Futures for 5/08 for gasoline are currently at $3.04/gallon - down a point on the day. If you're anywhere close to correct, you should quit residency and make a few billion on the energy markets.

My school actually did increase our cost of living budget by about $800 for last year because of inflation. I'd be surprised if they do it again this year, but I wouldn't complain.

And yes, while things aren't the best in the lending industry, I would be very surprised if people aren't able to get all the governmental loans they need.

Agree with maxprime & JoeNamaMD. Good of the Mods to send this thread to FA so the thread can get some sense knocked into it.

The more time I spend on SDN the more I think we need a +ve (green bar) / -ve (red bar) system on threads. The technology exists - now only if we could get Lee to implement it. Thanks to this thread, I wasted a whole 2 minutes of my life that I'll never get back reading this garbage. If we had a neg system readers could mark the thread as such or mark it green if the thread is worthwhile. Hello Lee? Can we please?

If you post this in the site suggestions, I will gladly "second" your nomination to implement that system (which is used on other sites that I frequent and is incredibly useful.)
