Increase in pathology this year?

Hey everyone,

I'm a newly registered user, but i've been reading this forum for a few weeks. I'm applying to pathology this year, and am curious if there's an increase in interest in pathology this year again? Does anyone know?

Hi, I am actually at miami, doing an observership at MSMC, there is an increase in the number of american applicants to pathology, actually this year there are 15 medical students from the University of Miami that are applying, when normally only 5 or 6 per year did, in the previous years. That makes the competition harder, because, there are some people that said this is a National tendency. Does anyone know if the same is true for other programs?

There are more med students from MCV(VCU) going into path this year as well seems 4 or 5 are applying to path, usually only a couple apply.

Also, US grad applications to our residency program seem to be up as well. I have no idea of the actual percentages, but we have as many or more US applicants now as we did at the end of the application period last year.

So it may be a national trend, doubt we will know for sure until after the match data is released.

there is quite a large increase this year....everything you are saying holds true for the med schools here as well.

i am sure path will never be as competitive as chiropractor school.
