Have any of you heard of Florida House Bill 671, it passed the health quality subcommittee

Currently, Florida’s laws prohibit a licensed pharmacist from supervising more than 1-3 registered pharmacy technicians. HB 671 increases the number of registered pharmacy technicians a licensed pharmacist may supervise to authorize the supervision of up to six registered pharmacy technicians.

Not to fond of this myself.

we tried to stop it, didn't do much good when you have big companies with wads of money to cushion the committee members for their next election...

Why is that bad? If I own a pharmacy I'd rather have me and 6 low paid techs than me another pharmacist and some techs.

have you thought about the people that don't have their own pharmacy?

Same problem would be ran into when trying to stop schools from opening unfortunately. Until we can get a national pharmacy organization with some clout and that won't touch any of the big pharmacy chains the profession will continue to slide, along with wages and working conditions.

I think so long as the pharmacist is the rate limiting step there won't be many problems and I don't think adding more techs would be too much of a problem so long as they don't give them the legal ability to do DURs, final check, flu shots and consultations. In my state it's a 1:2 ratio with it increasing to 1:3 if you have a certified technician working. Although, you can have more techs if you classify them as clerks and they are just running registers.

In NY it's 2:1 but you just work with 2 techs and 3 "cashiers"

I feel like a lot of people are making a bigger deal out of this than it is. It's not like people follow the current ratio anyway.

Increase pharmacist to tech ratio

To be clear, by "increase", you mean "decrease"?

I feel like a lot of people are making a bigger deal out of this than it is. It's not like people follow the current ratio anyway.

Exactly. One day of broken ratio saves the cost of the fine for being caught many times over.

Adding more techs doesn't help. It just adds gasoline to the fire. Just another pair of hands to grab and pull the pharmacist even if well-trained. The problem is too many in-windows and the pharmacist is too distracted.
