Hello everyone, I am a final year Ortho resident in India and I have been wondering if I could move my practice permanently to USA since political situations in India are very volatile and I dont suppose they will get better.

I have been informed that specialists need to go through the residency program again to be able to practice in their field, but I am hoping there would be another way since I have already spent enough effort to be where I am and I dont want to go through another 3 years of training (plus years to study for USMLE).

So here I am, asking other Ortho Pods for help. Any information pointing to the light at the end of the tunnel would be greatly appreciated.

To do ortho in the US, you'd have to complete an ACGME ortho residency in its entirety, which is five total years of training.

Not possible. To be a practicing orthopaedic surgeon in the US, you must pass all 3 USMLE steps, and complete a five year residency. Ortho is very competitive even among US graduates, so the chances of a foreign medical grad getting a residency position is slim. Sorry.
