I just read that Indiana doesn't give out too many interviews especially to people from out of state. But i've seen quite several posts with out of staters getting interview invites. Does anyone know how many people(instate/out) were interviewed the last cycle? I'm out of state with average stats( GPA3.55SGPA 3.47/AA 18 TS19), and just checked my AADSAS, saw interview invite.

I like the fact that Indiana requires secondary fees only if you're offered an interview, just wondering how many interviews they are..

Thanks!

Where did you read they don't give too many interviews at?

I have an interview at Indiana as well.. with very average stats 3.59/3.43 18/18/19. If this whole "not many interview at IU" is correct than maybe they screwed up on AADSAS for both me and you? lol jk 🙂

Hopefully that's not the case. I have seen people getting indiana invites with average stats like us. I just don't think that the whole "not many indiana interviews" is necessarily true, just from what i've seen here on SDN.

Love to hear inputs from people who know or attend IU!!🙂

I don't know where you heard that they only interview few out of state students. I was invited and so was my brother. We are both out of state. He got a 19/19/21 on the DAT and my stats are on predents. I would say that (no facts, just an idea) for the 31 out of state spots open they interview they would still interview a good number of people.😕 I would like to know what they look for. As you said that you have average stats maybe they are deciding off of personal statements, extracirricular, LORs? anybody know?

I'm an in state applicant and I turned in my app on july 7th. I havent recieved an interview invite yet, but I met with the admission director and he said that I should recieve an invite. My AADSAS GPA is a 4.06 (regular is 3.96), DAT was AA 19/ TS 21/ PAT 17. He told me to get about 40 hrs shadowing in a general dentist's clinic and spend some more time volunteering and building extracurriculars.

Again, I'm an in state applicant so I dont know how it works for out of state. Hope that helps!

geez, 40 hours of shadowing.. i don't know if that's necessary..😕

I'm just repeating what I was told by the director of admissions at IUSD...so, I think its safe to assume that following his advice would improve my chances as an applicant. I have about 56 hours right now...but that includes time spent in an orthodontist's and an oral surgeon's office. I have 22 hours at a general dentists office...I only need 18 more but I plan to continue even after I've met the 40 hour quota b/c my dentist is awesome!

last year they interviewed around 100 out of staters

I have spoken to many ad comms and they love to see dental shadowing or some type of dental experience

Maybe they place more emphasis on dental experience/hours than amazing stats?

I was an in-stater last year submitted on June18th, didn't get an interview. I had a lower GPA then you and did prettty similar on the DAT. I went to IU and was taking the anatomy requirement my senior year, this could have turned them off. I am still confused to why I didn't interview there, considering when I looked on predents, I saw people who submitted after me with lower GPA and DAT get interviews and gain admission. I never heard anything from them until I withdrew my application after getting accepted to my 1#. I don't care because IUSD facilities are old, they use PBL and I don't ever have to drive down 31 again.

by the way, to any of you who have received "INVITED FOR INTERVIEW" status on AADSAS, how long did you have to wait to get something from the school itself?

I got an email about four weeks saying that Indiana got my application and that as soon as I took the DAT I should fax them my unofficial scores. I faxed the scores two weeks ago and last week sent an email asking if they got the scores. The lady said they got the scores, my application was under review and I should hear by the end of the week if I got an interview. That was last week and I haven't heard anything. Does that mean I didn't get the invite?

I checked on AADSAS and saw interview invite last thursday (i think..)
I still haven't got anything in mail. I haven't been home all day today so hopefully there's an invite waiting for me at home.

I'm out of state, and when I interviewed there last year Dr. Kasberg explained that they accept a lot more out of state people then they have seats for because they figure they will go to their state schools. He said that since we were interviewing we had a 1 in 3 chance of getting accepted. I don't know if it will be the same this year. I wasn't accepted last year, but I guess they still have some interest in me since they invited me again this year.

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know how many were interviewed the last cycle?

Everyone who has received an interview invite; is it listed on AADSAS or have some of you heard just by email or mail without the AADSAS posting?

I happened to call IU about something, and the lady i spoke with informed me about my interview invite, then i checked my AADSAS just to check for updates and saw it there. Haven't got anything in mail yet, although she said it was mailed out last thursday..

When did you guys turn in your application? I turned mine in on July 8th so I was just trying to figure out when I find out if I get an invite or not.

If I remember right, Dr Kasberg said they were interviewing close to 300 out of state applicants and would accept about 90 of them for the 30 available seats. In the Official Guide to Dental Schools book it says they interviewed 276 out of state applicants for the entering class of 2006.

My AADSAS page still hasn't been updated by Indiana yet. I just returned the form with my choices for interview dates last week, so maybe they'll update AADSAS when they get that.

I submitted my application on June 14th and it was mailed out to the schools on July 10th.

My AADSAS application was submitted on June 6, and mailed out on June 25th. Took DAT on July 27th.

I just got an invitation from IU today thru mail, but there is nothing updated on the AADSAS yet. It is my first interview invitation. I am excited!😎

I got my invite in the mail yesterday and sent it back today

tweetie pie, are you saying you got an interview invite in the mail without anything listed in the status portion of AADSAS? Thanks for your help.

This is exactly what happened to me. I sent Michelle a email wondering if they received my fax and she told me the exact thing she told you. Sure enough I got a letter in the mail a week or two later. My aadsas still has not been updated but not many schools (i know nova does though) use that.

On a further note I have another friend with average stats get invited to an Indiana interview. I am still wondering what they are looking for in a student.

I'm still waiting 🙁

Did Indiana require an observation hour form? I don't rember if I had to submit it or not..

Dr Kasberg, if ever still in the ADCOM of IUPUI, has soft spots for candidates showing great zeals in dentistry. Whether you're a young/aspiring pre-dental student or a well travelled immigrant, just pile on your personal statement and interview with things that form a niche to the school. You also want to make sure that you've all of the pre-requisites fulfilled ASAP.:luck:
