Hello everyone! I am so grateful to have received a few acceptances, and I am narrowed down between these two which both would offer me in-state tuition as an Indiana resident. I attended undergrad OOS, and am trying to decipher between options that both entail moving back to the midwest. Long term I would love to attend residency in the southeast. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Indiana
Pros
  • Large networking opportunities in Indy
  • Beautiful new facility in Bloomington
  • Great reputation
  • Seems like there are more safe housing options off-campus around Indy
  • Interesting international service trip opportunities during the summer
Cons
  • Late campus placement assignments (would only want to be in Indy or Bloomington)
    • seems like many of the perks that give Indiana its rankings are based out of only the Indy campus
  • Seems like you would have a very different medical school experience based on what campus the lottery places you in
  • Interested in research and seems like opportunities are limited outside of Indy and Bloomington
  • Can't find a match list anywhere
  • Wouldn't be a fan of having to move between campuses. Like the idea of getting to know my cohort and staying with them throughout the years
  • Small class sizes at regional campuses

Cincinnati
Pros
  • Large pediatrics presence (might be interested in peds) with the #3 children's hospital across the street
    • pediatric clinical research
  • Large class size and you stay with your cohort (for the most part) throughout the years
  • Decent match list, high exam pass rates
  • Liked interview day
    • Faculty seemed to have a sense of humor and the students seemed transparent and nice
  • Doesn't seem to harp on training physicians to stay in the region as much as other schools
  • Seems like admissions like interesting ECs on applications
Cons
  • P/F Quartile ranking system - have heard it can get cliquey
  • Housing options seem interesting - seems like there are some sketchy places sprinkled around and lots of the houses seem kinda gross
  • Medcat logo is creepy
  • Maybe not as highly ranked as Indiana?
  • I've heard about some mandatory volunteering requirements. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely confused and would love to hear any additional insight.
Overall as you can probably tell I seem to be leaning one way over the other; however, I am still heavily considering both options. I would love any insight to hear some different perspectives, especially since I am not sold on any one specialty that would pull me any which way. COA is nearly the same for each for me. Feel free to PM me with any additional insight if you would like🙂
