which of the following would you interview at if you had to choose: indiana or colorado?

i don't have time in my schedule to do both and i know very little about either.

do you mean Indiana University or Colorado University?

personally, the state of Indiana always bothers me.....i usually have to drive through Indiana on my way from Chicago to Detroit and it's full of high electrical wires and the stench of mud and old water.

Colorado on the other hand is a very snowy and cold place....which would be great if you like to SKI...but not so great if you don't like winter.

comparing the two programs, i dunno....they are probably on equal tiers of quality...both would be large university programs....location might be your biggest factor in deciding between those 2.

thanks ri. that's kind of what i was thinking, that the 2 programs are pretty equal in quality. i think i'll end up going to indiana just because it's closer to family although colorado is such a beautiful place.

as a lurker who happens to live in Indiana, but LOVES to visit Colorado....I would go for Colorado all the way as far as location is concerned

rirriri....You probably drove through the crappiest part of Indiana (...and the US) on your way to Chicago (Gary is a scary and dirty place...and scary...and scary...and scary)...the rest of the state is clean. Indiana isn't BAD in any respects...it is just BORING (at least for someone who likes landscape). If you are in the foothills of the rockies (I would assume the program you want is in the foothills), you will get less snow and warmer weather then Indiana (warmer winters and slightly cooler summers). The weather is AWESOME. You will also get some of the best landscape in the country. And if you like winter weather you will always have the option of heading into the mountains for all the snow and cold you can handle.

Denver
Indy

That said, I have lived in Indiana for 23 years and will spend the next 4 years here in med school....after that I hope to be in Colorado.

Indianapolis is a very nice and clean city (and not too big). It is just the weather/landscape that gets to me.

I am not even a med student yet so I have no idea about strength of pathology residency programs, but based on location I would go with Colorado all the way.

Well there are 6 colo students going for the 3-4 colo path slots, so that is not that much better.

yes!! you are right...i always drive through Gary, Indiana....LOL

having seen the worst parts of Detroit, Chicago, etc....not many places scare me, but Gary, Indiana scares me. It just seems wrong..something is very wrong there.

but yeah, i've heard Indianopolis is pretty alright! so sorry about that, didn't mean to say all of Indiana is like Gary.....i just always associate that area to Indiana whenever i hear the name.

cheers

One of my scariest times driving involved Gary. I was trying to find my way to the house of a college friend. He lives in a town right next to Gary.

Well...I was driving along and all of a sudden I noticed that I was surrounded by scary people sitting on the side of the street, run down buildings all over the place, more liquor stores then on a college campus, a lot of weird looks as I was the only white boy in a nice car around (probably), and just a "smell" of something not being right. I started to get a little scared and it kept getting worse. Suddenly it struck me that I must be in Gary. I pulled out my cell phone to call my buddy to get back on track but my cell phone wasn't getting coverage!!! I was leary about turning down any more roads and no way was I going to turn around in an alley to head back. I found a church parking lot to make a U-turn in (figured God would look out for me 😉 ) Eventually I backtracked out of Gary.... I had taken a wrong turn. My friend told me I was probably in the absolute worst part of Gary. ahhaha I'll think I'll just stay in my snooty burb of Indy where the biggest danger is getting hit by some 16 year old in their new BMW (yes, the people can be scary at home too, but for differnt reasons..at least you won't get murdered 🙂) )

I ended up in a bad part of Chicago once trying to make my way home after a concert (at like 1 in the morning too) and that was nothing compared to the feeling I got in Gary in the middle of the day. Thank goodness I wasn't driving at night.
