Hello,

I have already been accepted to IUSD (Out of State) I also have an interview coming up at Creighton which, I was going to cancel. However, a friend of mine strongly advised me to go to the interview. He told me that Creighton has a real "top notch program". What do you guys think is it worth it to spend $500-600 to go and interview at Creighton when I have already been accepted to IUSD?

I am sorry I don't know much about Creighton.

Thank you and Happy new year!

Go to the interview!

Creighton is significantly cheaper. Check it out. 500 is a drop in the bucket.

From what I have researched both are good schools. Creighton is about $40,000 less (total fees, tuition and living etc) than IUSD. Creighton is a Christian private school (catholic I believe), where as IUSD is public. One thing I like about IUSD is that they are expanding the dental work and sim lab (x2) and renovating with all brand new equiptment this semester (suppose to be complete by july 2010). What you should do is focus on where you want to live. For $40,000-50,000, living in somewhere that you dont like makes the money not as important. besides that much is not that significant in the whole scheme of things. Just ask your self, "is indianapolis where I want to be for the next four years... if so, cancel the interview and pay the deposit.

I've lived in Indy most of my life, and I plan to attend IUSD in 2011. I've visited it a couple of times and spoken with Dr. Kasberg a few times as well. In addition, I went to their in-state recruiting party thing, "Dental Day", and I've been impressed with what I've seen. The price, even for in state, is fairly high, but compared to private schools, this is an excellent option.

Also, housing in Indianapolis is way below the national median. With 2 roommates, you could probably get by with $300 per month per person or less for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment and be only 10-15 minutes from the dental school (which, conveniently, is on the edge of the downtown area where traffic tends to get nasty). You can apply for state residence after your first year as well which will reduce your tuition to approximately 30k per year from 60k per year (ouch..).

Indy is a cool city with a good night life and, best of all, the Indianapolis Colts. Side note: my dentist is the official Colts dentist and has a super bowl ring... awesome.

Who cares about that pre clinic crap. Both will offer excellent clinical opportunities, from what I saw from my interviews a few years back. Also, Creighton has no specialty programs. Check it out. Talk to the students about their experiences. I think Creighton is a diamond in the midwest.

I care. If Im going to be spending over $200,000, I wouldnt mind having state of the art "pre-clinic crap"🙄. Its just a perk. Plus Indiana has every specialty. Go to Creighton if you have doubts about indy. but if your like some who have already spent every dime of student loan money on the applications, put indy in your pocket and be greatfull.

Indiana is a lot more expensive. You can get through CU at about 260ish. Indy is well over 310k. Also, it's a public school so who knows what will happen regarding state funding. The pre clinic crap shouldn't factor it.

A few hundred dollars is insignificant with regards to what you COULD save.

Neat... 😴

Thank you very much for the reply! However, from what I have read Creighton is $45k/year vs. IU is $55k/year. (minus living expenses)

Also, if you marry an Indiana resident than your tuition goes to in-state. I'm single and do not mind the option of settling down in Indianapolis.
