I was studying embryonic development today and I was trying to determine the composition of induction signals, just to obtain a deeper understanding. Are they hormones?

Induction signals can come from hormones, chemicals (such as chondroitin sulfate), the presence of certain tissue or other signal factors. Early on, hormones are unlikely to play much of a role as the cells needed to produce them are not yet developed. The molecular basis of individual induction factors is quite varied and likely well beyond the scope of the MCAT unless they want to discuss it in a passage.

hope this helps, good luck!
