I just got my schedule for July for my Intern year of residency and I'm starting with ID (I thought I was going to start with ICU). Anyone got any advice for ID? I didn't do one in med school. I got a Sanford's. Any other pocket books or texts you guys recommend to read in preparation?

you could check out MedStudy ID if it's readily available or MKSAP ID.

basically you want to review infectious diseases you might be commonly consulted for: endocarditis treatment regimen, HIV diagnosis, management and prophylaxis, fever of unknown origin workup, fever in a traveler, tuberculosis therapy and diagnosis, ventilator associated pneumonia, etc.

also you will need to brush up on esoteric and expensive serology tests that will be ordered for 'academic purposes' such as Cocci titers, West Nile panel, Ehrlichia AB etc..

Wash your hands. A lot.

Sorry, couldn't resist 🙂 . Sanford's is great. CDC publishes a "red book" every so often with a lot of info on infectious diseases. Don't run out and buy it, but if a copy is available, it may be worth a look.
