HEY guys,

1. Anyone interviewing at UPenn on Dec 11th -- would like to share a room close by?

2. To any philly people or anybody who has already interviewed -- what is the best way to get from the airport to hotel? I see Lady Liberty as the shuttle service. Any other ideas?

I would say Lady Liberty shuttle is your best bet:
positive: only 10 bucks, takes you pretty much anywhere you need to go
negative: they usually try to fill up their van/list before heading off, so you could be waiting a bit to get on the road (mines was like a 30 minute wait)

There's also the public transportation option but I didn't use that one, so I can't help ya there.

Public transportation isn't much cheaper than shuttle. I took the R1 train (I think it was $6 or $7) from the airport and transferred to the subway ($2). I would've taken a shuttle had I known it's that cheap (also much safer), but I like using the public transit system at an unfamiliar city.

I used lady liberty shuttle in October. the service was great. i did not have to wait at all. as soon as you get off the plane, go outside and you will see the buses. also, if you stay at sheraton university, the concierge will arrange the pick up next day. just let them know and they will call the shuttle 4 you.

Here's the best, cheapest way to get around at PENN:

Take the Regional Rail to 30th and Market and walk to Penn at 34th and Market. The Dental School is on 40th and Spruce. I assume you are getting in one day early? You can stay at Penn for free if you do the following:

1) contact the admission office and get a guest pass that allows you to use the library and gym.

2) go to Van Pelt library on 34th and locust. Get a locker and put your things there. They are open 24 hours. Park yourself at a sofa and you can sleep there overnight. Students do that all the time when they are studying for exams.

3) Go to pottruck gym (37th and walnut) in the morning (they open at 6). You can take a shower there (they have private showers).

4) Go to your interview.

5) Go back to your locker to get your stuff or just renew your locker (you have 24 hours use before they charge you, but you can renew it).

6) Go home or stay overnight and enjoy your awesome weekend at Penn.

7) Go visit a frat house but do not make an ass of yourself.

Enjoy.

Oh I forgot to mention:

You can probably crash a at a frat house on one of their couches or just stay up all night and eat at the 24 hour diner on 39th and walnut. Some of those frats stay up all night anyway. Or if your an outdoorsy type, you can rest on one of many lawns at penn: hill house (34th and walnut), high rises (40th and spruce - right in front of the dental school), etc. You'll blend in perfectly with some of the homeless people in West Philly. You can even get a forty at copacabana on 40th and spruce. Too bad the arcade across the street from the dental school is under renovation, otherwise you can go there and plug your quarters into the new tekken game, they're open 24 hours.

🙂 thanks a LOT for the suggestions guys --- I took the shuttle in NY and it took an outrageously long time. However, I am still leaning towards that option because I am completely a mess when it comes to public transportation (I am from Texas, we drive EVERYWHERE lol)

lol. I hope you are kidding
Winter + outdoorsy = :scared:

Good point. In that case, stick to the frats and the library. I forgot to mention Fresh Grocer, a supermarket on 40th and walnut. They are open 24 hours and have a dining area on the second floor. You will probably have company as a lot of locals like to sleep there too. McDonald's is across the street and is also open 24 hours. It may be an ok place to pass the time if you don't mind the bizarre stench.
