I know that Touro-NV does it.

PCSOM called two days after my interview to let me know I was in. The dean said the official letter would be out later this week

Touro MI does. They will send an emal the day the letters are sent.

KCOM called me and told me the good news on the phone. I had a letter a few days later.

When did you interview?

OUCOM and MSUCOM both notify by phone before the official letter. WVSOM updates the web interface prior to the letter.

Would it be annoying of me to email the school to ask if they do this?

Some may email and some may call.

I actually called all of mine and they either told me that I was accepted or implied that I was without saying those exact words.

So, how did you call and "ask" without being a pest? 😉

Alright so what did you say to the school when you called? I want details! hahaha. 😎

You can just tell them that you are interested in your status. Some schools will let you know while others won't.

how soon after your interview did you call?

Me: "I have an interview next week, but since you are my first choice by far, and I really want to go to your school, could you give me a hint as to my application status? I don't want to attend the interview if I'm already accepted to your school, because it will be a waste of time and money."

Admissions office: "I can't tell you your admissions status over the phone, but we have sent a letter to you already concerning your status. If you really want to go here, then I wouldn't attend the interview next week."

That's brilliant. The only problem with me doing that is I have only applied to MSUCOM. (my interview is at 9:30am tomorrow!) I could not use the excuse of having an interview but I could use the excuse of contemplating adding more schools to my list? How long after the interview did you wait to call?

You don't need to have interviews to say you do.... Just call and say you do and follow what OSU said, it'll work out.

But if he "applied" only to the one school, this can be easily verified on the primary app. If they happen to notice this discrepancy they may think less of him. Probably not of any practical consequence, but embarassing perhaps.
