For anybody who is interested:

On January 31, Arizona received initial accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

This designation provides the full benefits of accreditation for the next
four years to all Arizona students. This includes eligibility for
scholarships, student loans, the ability to sit for state licensure exams,
and the opportunity to apply to postgraduate programs.

Of futher interest (at least for me!) is that there is an exciting speaker scheduled for the matriculation: the Surgeon General of the United States, Dr. Richard Carmona! That's a great way to start the school!

Gavin,
Wow! that is great! UNLV is still not accredited and AZ has not even started its inaugural class. I am still confused on the status of "accredited dental schools." During the UNLV interview, the accreditation situation was briefly discussed. Can you elaborate on the benefits of acceditation. Compare UNLV and AZ accreditation status. As a future student of UNLV, would I not be eligible for scholarships and etc.?

Accroding to the ADA website, UNLV is accreditation eligible which pretty much means that it is under the process. AZ is in the same boat then? right?

Neither school will receive the "official" accreditation "stamp-of-approval" until the first class graduates. However, for purposes of being able to apply to Service Corps. Scholarships and receive Federal Loans, these organizations recognize them as accredited as any other school.

Notice that I said that Arizona received "initial accreditation". The term "accreditation eligible" is no longer used by the Commission because it confused students and applicants.

Both UNLV and Arizona have initial accreditation, and each school will receive accreditation when their first class graduates. At each of these respective schools, all students receive ALL the benefits of accreditation.

Thanks for the info and Advice!
