Why were most impressive personal statement you've read impressive? If a personal statement has ever made you want an applicant to get accepted, why was that?

They told a compelling story in a clear, honest voice.

They were able to back up statements of character and intent with history/evidence. Everyone says they're dedicated to the underserved and blah blah, but the best statements can then point to something the applicant did, like working in a free clinic, or volunteering with the health dept, or whatever and say "see? told ya".

started a school in africa, cured aids, and is a URM from the most underserved comunity. Just do something like this
