I am a non traditional student who graduated from in 2004 with a business degree and worked as a consultant for the past 4 years and have not decided to become a dentist based on some community service work I did during the time that I was working.
I am currently enrolled at my local university taking science classes to complete my prerequisites for dental school. I started taking my science classes this past spring semester and have the following classes done:
Bio 1 and Bio 1 lab
Chem 1 and Chem 1 lab
Physics 1 and physics 1 lab
Currently, I am taking Bio 2, Chem 2, and Chem 2 lab during summer 2. Along with this, I am trying to teach myself ochem for DAT purposes.
Stats (According to TMDSAS)
Overall GPA: 3.75
Science: 3.60 (should come up to 3.67 by summer if I make all A's)
BCP: 4.0 (not given by TMDSAS)
I have received all A's in my core science classes so far, but my calc classes from undergrad are bringing my science GPA down.
I am registered to take the DAT on Sept 19th, so I think I will have sufficient time to prepare for it by then (except ochem I think)
Schools that I am considering:
-Houston
-Baylor
-San An
-UConn
Now that you have my background, I wanted to get input from y'all. If I score an average score on all the sections of the DAT for the schools that I am planning to apply to, with the exception of ochem, will I get an interview invite? How low of an ochem score on the DAT can I get and still be competitive? Will the admissions committee consider the fact that I have not yet taken ochem into the admissions process? Do any of you recommend any other schools that I should add to the list?
