Hey guys;

This is my ranking:
1. Categorical Program A
2. Advanced Program A
3. Advanced Program B
4. Prelim Program A
5. Prelim Program B

Ok. I am pretty much sure with 99% certainty that I will match in my number 1 spot. I am lost on what to do with spots 2-5. Should I add prellm A or B as a Supp list to Advanced A or B just in case of that 1% chance I don't match in categorical program A? So something like this:

1. Categorical Program A
2. Advanced Program A + Prelim Program A
3. Advanced Program B + Prelim Program B

And can I still rank prelim A and B as rank 4 and 5, respectively?
1. Categorical Program A
2. Advanced Program A + Prelim Program A
3. Advanced Program B + Prelim Program B
4. Prelim Program A
5. Prelim Program B

cheers!

I think this is what you want:

1. Categorical A
2. Advanced A + Supplemental List A
3. Advanced B + Supplemental List B
4. Prelim A
5. Prelim B

Supplemental List A:
1. Prelim A
2. Prelim B (unless you'd rather scramble for prelim than do Prelim B with Advanced A)

Supplemental List B:
1. Prelim B
2. Prelim A

thanks for the prompt response LJ. I am not too picky about what prelim I prefer, A or B. I will take your advice and rank it as you suggested.

thx again!

I went with:
1. Categorical A
2. Advanced A + Supplemental List A
3. Advanced B + Supplemental List A
4. Prelim A
5. Prelim B

Supplemental List A:
1. Prelim A
2. Prelim B

It is "OK" that I used supp list A for both spots 2 and 3?

I am not too picky about what prelim I prefer, A or B.

Think carefully about that. If you match Cat B and prelim A, you will need to move between your prelim and your Cat programs. Prelim is likely to end June 25th, and your cat will start Jul 1, giving you around 5-7 days to completely move. If all of your programs are in the same city and you don't plan on moving then this obviously isn't an issue.

Doing your prelim and your cat at the same program is a good way to get known and integrated into the program.
