Hello,

I took a biology course with a lab component that involved an independent out of class project. We had go in for extra lab hours during our own free time to complete this project. I found this project enjoyable and valued the experience. I was wondering if anyone has ever listed/talked about a research experience on their application/personal statement even though it was part of a course and not an independent study.

That is not research experience, it is a required lab component to a prerequisite course. You can absolutely talk about that experience if you want to, just don't portray it as research experience.
