Hey all,

I have always intended on going to medical school but over the last year or so I am not sure if my application would be competitive. For this reason I wish to get your insight.

Biochem major
GPA 3.9/4.0
MCAT (PS=12 BS=12 VR=8 WS=R)
I am well rounded - lots of extracurricular
Lots of community based volunteer work / leadership stuff
3 summers of research / 1 publication / 1 research conference presentation
Actively involved in sports

Here is the catch, I am a Canadian student and I will be considered out of state regardless of where i apply in the states. Will my application be competitive in the states or is my case another example of 'wishful thinking'.
Please suggest any specific Medical colleges where my qualifications would be competitive?

Thank you for your insight!

You are definitely competitive, but I wouldn't try to apply to many state schools with strict resident-only policies. You would have a great chance at private schools like Drexel, Temple, SLU, Rush, etc.

Temple is a state supported school. They take 50% of the class from residents of PA.

You are obviously competetive. Dont know why you think your not.

thanks guys!!!

I appreciate all the help.
Do american schools look at MCAT as a whole (i.e. total score like 32R) or is there a minimum score required for each section (would the 8 in VR cause me lots of problems)

Thanks

I would check very carefully with each school that you apply to whether they accept non-US citizens. Many schools (private and state) do NOT accept foreign applicants. Check before you apply with each school so that you don't waste your money.

you have better stats than me and i got an interview at harvard. you are good to go anywhere...
