Hello,

Any words of advice for when you feel your energy flagging, and you just don't feel like studying, even this early on in the semester? Is that a bad sign? I want to do well so badly, it's just that I'm feeling kinda slothful. I want to overcome this feeling and put in my 100%, I just need a good dose of motivation to get there.

Any advice?
 
It's natural to feel that you can't always give 100%. It's called burnt out! It's part of being human 🙂

What helps me when I am sad or feeling tired is like to jog, sing karoke, or rant to a girlfriend.


Things will look up....just give it a week! I'm sure you don't have clinical depression 😀
 
Low energy problems here too!!! Yep, it's kinda bothering me that it's coming on 2nd wk of classes (pre-med still). I promised myself I'd cut back my schedule, but here I am, working an overnight shift at EMS [56hrs this wk], 15cr (incl. organic I, physics I, and biostatistics), researching salamanders w/ Biology Dept...doing work study work with Psych Dept...lab assistant for intro BIO class...the list goes on.

How do you guys limit/control yourselves when you feel the urge to pile way too much into your life????? I cut back some stuff, but just added two new things pretty much...this is not good... I don't want to burn out but I have a hard time saying no to new and exciting projects. help?

Slothful as in lack of energy, or you just dont feel like studying?
 
I personally dont think that quantity is better than quality. There is no point doing all this extra stuff if you are going to do badly in them. I would say the key is to prioritize.

Most important believe it or not is grades. You have to make it to some cut off to have ad com even look at your recommendations.

And then after you know you can get the grades, you can start piling the extracurriculars. But I wouldn't burn myself out. If you are burnt out now, what are you going to do when the app process becomes more grueling, eg. interviews.

Do less, but remember to do it well.
ALL THE EXTRAS wont get you into to med school, if the other important aspects of your app are weak.
KEEP IN MIND WHAT IS MOST IMP.

Eat some meal worms and then think about how meal worms are very very gooder than starving todeath then mepow like a cat and prance about in glee as your life slips away.....slips away.....slips away....
 
Tofurkey: I know how you feel! Whenever I feel that motivation slipping away, I just ask myself a question...

do i want to keep teaching? gets me right to my books! 😀

same thing works for working out... do i wanna get fat? :laugh:
