My second weekend as a freshman in college I received disciplinary action for being caught with marijuana and one pill of adderall (no prescription). I am now in my first of two gap years after graduating and I am just wondering if I even still have a chance at medical school. I had no problems- academic or conduct- for the rest of school and I graduated with pretty good stats. I am extremely regretful of what happened and I believe I can explain that, but I want to know if my application will basically just be thrown out immediately for this

You weren't criminally charged? I thought possession of adderall is a felony

As long as you own this, and have led a transgression free life since then, you should be OK.

Sometimes you have to apply with the app you have, warts and all.

If you don't apply, your rejection rate will be 100%.
I have read a lot of posts about people with IA’s for alcohol or marijuana but not about rx drugs so I also wanted to no if this makes it significantly worse? Even if it was so long ago.

And the OP has no criminal record. Hopefully, if the rest of the app is good, it will be overlooked as a youthful indiscretion. People get into medical school with DUIs (after exemplary behavior and 5 to 10 years); this is not nearly as bad.

You get to tell this story and you should flesh it out so that adcoms understand what was happening.

You don't need to tell me your story and you don't need to write it here but when preparing your essay for the AMCAS application, you should imagine the adcom asking these questions:
How did you acquire these drugs? Did someone give them to you or did you buy them? How much did you buy and had you already used some when you were caught or were you caught before using? Was this your first time or had you experimented prior to this?
Did you acquire them for your personal use or did you intend to sell them? (I would doubt you'd have just one to sell but that is a different situation than being given or buying one to try it out and see what its like.)
What did the school do when you were caught (what was the punishment)?
What did you learn from this experience and how have you conducted yourself since then?
