What kind of question is that? Why are you already planning on being insubordinate as a premed? That is just setting yourself up for failure.

Really stupid question.

Talking in class, running in the hallway, not throwing away you trash after lunch will probable get you detention.

And a time out.

What circumstances justify insubordination as a medical student?

Would the student be martyred?

oh, the future of American medicine is so bright with doctors like him

I think that the time for petty arguments with authority figures is passed by the time one reaches med school.

I have found that petty arguments will not only get you hated by your fellow classmates for wasting their time, but will also get the dean to ask you to take a leave of absence until you have the people skills required to attend medical school.

personal experience with this.... or someone you know?

In general, if you act like a grown up in medical school, people will usually treat you like a grown up. Disagreement is fine, you're not in the military. But don't be a pain in the a$$. No one wants that.

Normally at the end of each year in medical school, a poll is taken to determine which student does the best job of challenging the status quo by being a complete a** to all of the higher-ups. This student is then subjected to a time honored medical tradition. The dean of the medical college puts him/her in the middle of a large circle of attendings, residents, and his fellow classmates. He then gives the student a shot of adrenaline and he runs around as those on the outside of the circle hurl rocks, syringes, and bedpans at this student until he dies, thus "martyring" him to the medical community.

You forgot...afterward they quarter his body and hang the remains in the four corners of the lecture hall as a solemn warning to next year's class.
