If I’m credentialed with the insurance company under my own Tax ID rather than the group practice’s Tax ID, would that create different responsibilities/risks and protection for me? In that case, I assume I’d still be contracted with the insurance as an independent provider. How would my responsibilities be affected if I only use the company for billing, scheduling, and administrative support, instead of working as their 1099 contractor?

How about if I'm just credentialed under that group practice? Would that protect the individual provider better?

As a beginner provider, I don't worry much about pay but more about risks now...

By your own tax id—You mean your own llc ein, right?

Not uncommon, and it likely works in your benefit.

They will get you credentialed under your own tax id, and then have you sign something called “an assignment of benefits”. This set up is common with contractors. It shouldn’t affect your stuff at all.

Pros:
1) whenever you leave, you are still credentialed with that insurance company
2) common
3) idk of another way of doing it
4) if they do something wrong, you just bring up the assignment of benefits, and start doing like the caged bird sings (I.e., nothing will happen to you).

Cons:
1) 🤷
